This character is a Balloonfish. They can grow to be anywhere from 8 to 14 inches long… this particular one was at the small end of that scale.

When threatened they will take in water and expand, which will cause all those spines that you see to stand straight up… making for a hard to swallow meal.

They are nocturnal hunters the big eyes and the green sparkles in their eyes help them see in the dark.
